well i looked at it tonight and checked underneath and the fuel tank skid was cracked  on the left rear corner of it...tow hooks were missing in the front  ....didn't think to look for the rear one though, but didn't notice it when i looked at the fuel tank skid....all other skids were present though from what I could tell....interior looked very good...paint was good, engine was clean, didn't have time for a test drive though since they were pretty much closed....maybe this weekend I'll get to take it for a spin and make sure it's a good ride, my dad on the other hand found a 2006 4x4 Sport :( that he his more partial in helping me acquire since it is newer and has fewer miles, however i've tried to convince him that it doesn;t have the options like the renny and all that jazz...but we'll see....he has the final say though...even though i'll be the one paying for it in less then a year.

don't perceive me wrong about how i worded that last post, i'm not a snob kid complaining tht is father is looking to get him another car when he wants a specific one...i'll gladly take any automobile, it's just that my father and I had a little argument about these 2 and i felt i was in the right so i may be partial to the Renegade instead of your basic Sport model...but at any rate as I said i'll take any automobile at this point...i just keep thinking i'll wake up out of a bad dream and my 2005 KJ RME will be in the drive way.....

Hey man. It sucks to get attached to a vehicle and then one day it's gone. I hope you get the one you want but even if you end up with the Sport model you can still add on all the mods you want. I am very happy with my 03 Sport. Good luck !!!

Are you sure it was cracked? The fuel tank skid is open on the corners, I'd show you a pic if I could find one. I thought it was odd when I first saw it, too.

Compare the options of the renny and the sport and the price and see if it really is worth it. Skids and tow hooks can be added later pretty easily. The flat hood is near-impossible to add on later. 160A alternator is a renegade-specific thing, but it's not all that necessary.

I say tell him that you just really hate the curved hood of the sports and limiteds and you'd rather look for a deal on another renegade or rocky mountain.

So the 2005 Renegade with 24k on it is going for $19k, what is the 2006 sport going for (and what is the mileage?)

yea from the open corner down the "seam" to the botom side of the skid it was cracked...yea that stuff could be added later, but why pay for it later when you can have it now, that's the way i see it

the '05 Renny has 24K miles and is at $19K whilst the '06 Sport is bare bone at 3K miles and for $21 (and personally i think there might be something up with it if someone already got rid of it at 3K miles in less then a year, but just a thought)

hmmm...dropping it at only 3K? I agree that there could be more to than that...and you'll never know for sure unless you buy it, and then it's too late. Go with the renegade. It's cheaper, and comes with more goodies.

Go with the renegade. The dealer will be able to transfer the 7/70,000 warranty to you. No such luck on the 06.

A good point, DC dropped the 7/70 warranty in 06.

I wouldn't suspect too much is wrong with the sport, though. The prior owners could be the type that don't drive much. Maybe the high price of gas made them switch cars. Maybe they bought it and hit some financial trouble.

The fact that the gas tank skid is cracked is sorta concerning....What did they do to it to crack it, and what other invisible damage did they do?

if Pops wants to spend more money, you can probably find something you like better for 21k. I got my renegade BRAND NEW, loaded for only 24k. You should be able to find a dealership that wants to unload one for cheap if you look around. Make a list of the options you really want and call a few dealers, get some quotes for comparison.

For example, I just did a quick search in my area on vehix, I found a 2005 renny with 11k on it for $21k
http://www.vehix.com/inventory/usedCarsVehicleDetails.aspx?make=Jeep&model=Liberty&year=2005&inventoryid=770000001B81DC&sim1=770000001B81E6&sim2=770000001B659C&sim3=770000001E4A48

Year older, More miles, Less $$$

Year newer, Less miles, More $$$

Let's face it, none of that matters. It's all about the 05 hood :) . You either want the 05 Renny hood or you want the Sport hood.

Well, that's how easy it was for me anyways. Once I saw the new hood on the Renegades I was sold. The wife agreeing helped as well. Don't get me wrong, I like all the Liberty models but I really liked the different hood when I saw it the first time, and still do.

Go with the Renegade. Not that I'm bias or anything.

Man I wish I could say I was getting the Renny....but my dad is os set in his ways and all that I'll prolly end up with the Sport...which I shouldn't complain about since I'll at least have an automobile + it is 4x4 instead of 4x2 like my last one (pictured in my avatar)...but I visited the Jeep website earlier today and found that they are about to start a super Memorial Day sale on Commanders, Liberty's, Wranglers, and Grand Cherokee's....anyone know how well a V8 commander 4x4 would handle off road?? If the cards fall right I might end up with one of them perhaps?? But then again the KJ just seems more capable personally....any thoughts?

I think you'll have a better time wheeling a KJ. The commanders are way to pretty to take on the hardcore trails...

If you're not happy with the sport, shop around. Hell, look on ebay even. I would seriously say that you could get a renegade for 21-22K on ebay. GL man...

I was sold by the 05 Renny Hood. It just changed the whole Jeep to me. Good Luck.

The KJ will kick the crud out of a commander off road...

the short wheel base, small size make it better on the trail/in the woods. The KJ has better approach/departure angles then the commander.

The KJ also has a much better club then the commander :D

If anybody sees a KJ for sale for around $10k let me know...I know I said I don't want the same thing again but you know how it goes...

Just like you shouldn't buy the first renegade you see, you also should let him get you the first sport he sees. Keep looking around. 19k is REALLY close to the price of one of these jeeps new, so it seems that you should be able to get whatever you want.

If you can't convince your dad to spring for the renny over the sport, there is NO WAY you will end up with a commander. Sorry to put it that way, but the commander is more expensive than the grand cherokee, and the grand cherokee is more expensive than the liberty. If you want a good deal and a great truck, go with the liberty. 21k won't buy you much of a grand or commander.

Ladies and Gents....later today I will be signing paper work for a 2006 Silver KJ Sport 4x4, with 3K miles on it, that has some "Options" put on it. It was a demo so that helped dropped the price of it some, plus me working for a Chrysler supplier and the rebates they have going now helped drop it further. By the way does anyone have a RRO 2.5" lift (spacer lift i believe it is, stiffer rear shocks were added too), how do you like it any probs or stuff I should look for to add with it or to change?

Congrats. Couldn't persuade you with the pic of my grille huh?. I have Rustys lift. Very happy with it. What kind of wheeling in your area. Here its either mud or sand.

Well pretty much mud here too with the occasional tree stump to maneuver every now and again....I have a friend that has about 3500 acres that his family owns and I hope he'll let me get out there sometime this summer. It just so happens though that this particular 2006 Kj Sport 4x4 is not the one I had mentioned earlier but one I happened across at another dealer while looking at a Renegade 4x4. This demo was "optioned" as I mentioned earlier with the following: Eagle wheels with BF Goodrich A/T 255s with matching spare, rock rails, tint all around, renegade fog lamps, front tow hooks, rear tow hook or hitch (I can't remember), Jeep logoed slush mats along with the carpeted ones, cargo mat, a chrome grill, it also has the Yakima Jeep Roof Basket installed with air dam. By the way the lift and everything else was dealer installed before any previous sale on the vehicle thus it is considered a factory vehicle and everything is covered under warranty. I'm happy and hopefully pics will come later today after the dealer opens at 1pm today.
