Alright. I have been away from the forum for a while so i'm not up to date on the latest stuff. I searched but couldn't find much (like always i suck at it)

Here is the info.

19 deg snowing and a little breezy. I'm still in the process of engine/trans/tcase swap on my girlfriends XJ so since we had some snow on the roads and the jetta TDI doesn't have snow tires she was to take my jeep to work this morning (530am). I went out to start it for her and no go. Cycled the plugs 2 times it would cough just a little and then just sputter against the starter. Ended up doing this for about 10 mins, off an on so i didn't overheat the starter although as cold as it was that should help. So I ended up starting the old 98 TDI and taking her to work.. The only time my jeep has never fired for me was when it sat on the top of a hill in the wind when it was -16F overnight and not plugged in. I did have one bad GP that i replaced as you will see later. The whole time it just acted as if the GP's were not on long enough, Like when i try to start my powerstroke and i don't work the manual solenoid long enough. Or the same with the jetta for the manual solenoid i put on it.

Ok changes since last winter

Inmotion stage 2 tune
Hemi tcm
euro TC
intake elbow kit (sasquatch)
ETECNO 7V Gp's I replaced all 4 (purchased in jan. of 14 and installed in may of 14)
Fuel in both the CRD and TDI was from the same place as far as i know.
Neither the TDI or CRD was plugged in.

Anyone have any problems with the inmotion tune not runing the GP's long enough? and is there a way to manaully run them since this is a stupid 7v circuit?

Edit- i located 2 threads about bad steel GP's after a few months already. Looks like that may be my cause? I'll have to check them when it warms up i guess and i'm not coughing my toes up through my lungs.

ok pulled the GP harness when i was hooking up the jumper cables. Using my meter i got 50ohm, 4.x ohm, 7-8ohm and the last was 0.1 ohm or i beleive 00 Now my battery low indicator is light up on my multimeter so it may throw them a little. but its looking like 3 bad ones?

Mine has NEVER not started. I've only had the OEM tune, and then the GDE Eco FT Tune.

I have Etecno 7v and have lived in climes from Cleveland to Jacksonville, FL then back to Cincinnati and currently in Nashville, TN.

I know there were a bad batch or two of the Etecno's, so that's a possibility, but I would definitely lean towards the tune.

Most fuels probably aren't winterized yet, depending on where you got it, do you put additives in your diesel?

As a habit, any time the temperature is going to be below 32F I always plug mine in, more for comfort than necessity, though I only started doing this about 2 years ago regularly.

Plug it in! It's easier on everything.

I checked my GPs again after a 15-20 mile drive after i did get it started later this morning. Readings are 6.x, 10.8,65, 1.5. Looks like i'll have to contact id parts as 3 appear to be bad and one on the edge.

Just my luck, winter is here and its wrench on the jeep time lol

As for the additives, I occasional will put in some power service, but nothing on any set schedule.

I don't think its a fuel issue as the filter was replaced at the same time the new GP's had been and the jetta started fine with fuel from the same place.

Units? Are these ohms, or volts, or...?

I bought those same steel plugs, but supposedly Etecno had a bad run. Someone else here posted a picture awhile back of the new version and old side by side. Not sure which I have.

Did you not get any CEL? When my ceramic plug went bad, it lit off the CEL right away.

Ohms. If it were volts i would have a major issue having pushing 65v to that one glowplug.

My dash looks like a christmas tree. The light is always on since i have the MAF unplugged, and i'm having issues with the traction control stuff. My code reading problem is a whole new post (starting it now)

Yeah, I thought you might have missed a decimal in the middle of that 65 figure.

1.5 ohms is probably about right but a little high, but 65 ohms, or even 11 ohms...clearly out. That can't help with your cold starts. Good luck with your Christmas tree.
