Or just do a better job of conserving water. Sometimes people will install a big day bin tank like 500 gal and let it slowly fill, then draw from that. Then overnight it will refill when your sleeping.
I grew up in the house so I understand the conservation. Wife and kids, not so much but they are learning
The storage tank was mentioned as an option, but the water quality is really bad, hard, some iron and really high salt content ( probably calcium). So it would cost probably $2-3000 for tank and pump/labor or more then we would need another $3-5000 for a softener system to clean it up.
Or we can drill a new well for an estimate of $5 K then maybe have good supply and better quality and be able to get by with a cheap $500 softener off the shelf.
The current well was drill down into rock so the weep holes are kind of not in a good position to allow pipe to re-fill, then they are 25 yers old so clogged and rusted shut, then we are getting the salt compound leaching out of the rock. They have tried re-generation a few yrs ago, but it's still at only 5 gals per minute and tasets horrible.
I guess we are stuck between " a rock and a hard place".
Sucks as city water is only like 800 feet around the corner, but county will not run it becuase there is only 4 houses in a 1/2 mnile or so, not worth their costs.
I have a similar issue with TIme Warner cable, they service the house right across the street but refuse to run a 70-80' drop across street into the house.
I still own our old house so for now, we will take quick showers, haul drinking water from there and we have been taking laundry back over to wash. It's only .6 mile around the corner so small inconvenience for now.
Yep Tom, for an '05 she is pretty low miles, 10K per year. Helps when wife's commute is only a 20 mile round trip and we rarely travel driving the Libby.
