Daughter rolled my old 05 KJ. No bags deployed but it was totaled and she walked away.
We felt silly buying anything else after it saved her life.
I didn't know how solid the 05 was until after I bought it new and put a few miles on it.
She really wanted another Jeep so we were blessed to find this 09 KK in excellent condition.

Have had it for almost a week now and I've noticed a leak under the water pump. I'm almost certain it's coolant dripping from the block/pump interface.

Is there anything I need to look for on these models before sending her back to school?

PS, we're taking it in Tues for an oil change and looked over by our mechanic.

Wow, I'm glad she's ok! Jeeps are safe, solid vehicles. My wife walked away from a head-on with a concrete barrier when someone sideswiped our XJ a few years ago. We didn't hesitate to replace it with another Jeep either. The KK seems like a "grown up" version of the XJ anyway, so it was a natural progression.

In addition to attending to the water pump, I would change the plugs and air filter on the engine, as well as do an oil change soon. I would also change the cabin air filters (inside a little plastic door behind the glove box) as well. Otherwise, you should be good.

How many miles are on it? If 60-100K+, I would recommend transmission fluid and filter, as well as transfer case and differential fluid changes. Check the owners manual for a list of recommended maintainance by mileage.

113k miles. I'll get a quote on the fluid changes. I can do the transfer/diff change but would rather try my luck with the transmission change.

You'll need to have a shop or the dealer do the tranny. We don't have a dipstick nor a way to tell the transmission temp so we can't check the fluid level...stupid dealer only garbage....

Everything else is easy to change and you can do yourself (if you choose).

As far as anything to look for, just make sure she's in good shape. The platform is pretty tried and true. It hasn't changed much since 02 when the KJ came out other than the body style and rear suspension.
