Check your passenger side CV joint up by the differential tube. See if it looks like it's rubbing.....
Very easy. Crawl under the front of the jeep and look up at the passenger side CV axle where it connects to the differential axle tube. If you see a mark like the CV stub shaft is rubbing on something all the way around, you've got a front end that needs some parts.
olypopper = I removed the hub / bearing unit and couldn't find anything wrong except the wheel studs shoulder didn't seem to protrude enough to catch the brake rotor. When I checked the center hub it was also exactly the same as my OEM. However when I mic'd everything, the original and the new were identical.
Also checked the axle to make sure it was engaging properly. The boot by the diff tube had non removable clamps (?)
I did notice that the wheel did not rotate easily. Lots of resistance. I have a Detroit (Eaton) TruTrac in the front and not sure if that's the way it's suppose to behave. (?)
Kinda baffled.
In searching posts regarding "vibration", someone wrote about removing the wheel speed sensor and injecting grease through the opening. So I did that. Had to come up with a creative adapter for my needle tipped grease gun.
Took it for a test drive and the vibration seems to be mostly gone, but can't tell for sure because of some normal tire noise from the Wrangler Duratrac's.
I'll take it over tomorrow morning and have the tires rotated to see if that helps. *fingers crossed*
EDIT: Think I isolated the problem.... front drive shaft CV(s).
