I replaced my RF hub/bearing unit last week and have noticed a vibration / noise that wasn't there before. It happens under constant acceleration but not deceleration (at any speed). Could it be a bad hub unit?

It could be. Also make sure the CV is in all the way and seated good.

Check your passenger side CV joint up by the differential tube. See if it looks like it's rubbing the steel frame cutout around it. That's where my noise was coming from.

Thanks for the reply. I'll take it apart to check.

Is there some obvious signs I should look for when I'm taking it apart and / or after?

Something I need to remove skid plate for? How deep do I need to go to see if all is good? I haven't done any front end stuff before.

Very easy. Crawl under the front of the jeep and look up at the passenger side CV axle where it connects to the differential axle tube. If you see a mark like the CV stub shaft is rubbing on something all the way around, you've got a front end that needs some parts.

olypopper = I removed the hub / bearing unit and couldn't find anything wrong except the wheel studs shoulder didn't seem to protrude enough to catch the brake rotor. When I checked the center hub it was also exactly the same as my OEM. However when I mic'd everything, the original and the new were identical.

Also checked the axle to make sure it was engaging properly. The boot by the diff tube had non removable clamps (?)

I did notice that the wheel did not rotate easily. Lots of resistance. I have a Detroit (Eaton) TruTrac in the front and not sure if that's the way it's suppose to behave. (?)

Kinda baffled.

In searching posts regarding "vibration", someone wrote about removing the wheel speed sensor and injecting grease through the opening. So I did that. Had to come up with a creative adapter for my needle tipped grease gun.

Took it for a test drive and the vibration seems to be mostly gone, but can't tell for sure because of some normal tire noise from the Wrangler Duratrac's.

I'll take it over tomorrow morning and have the tires rotated to see if that helps. *fingers crossed*

EDIT: Think I isolated the problem.... front drive shaft CV(s).

Well, I've replaced BOTH front wheel bearing / hub units and BOTH CV front drive shaft bearings AND BOTH rear U-joints. Also replaced the motor mounts.

Still have a vibration / low decibel drone at 1500 - 1900 RPMs under throttle pressure only but NOT on deceleration. It appears to be in the front end area, as I can feel it in the steering wheel and more audible in the front area than the rear of the cab.

At above 2K it smooths out.

I've ruled out tire noise at this point as was no change after having the tires rotated.

Does a turbo bearing failure behave this way?
