Ive always defended the K&N when it came to saying it doesnt filter. We have them in all of our jeeps and have never had any problems with them. As many of you probably know, I went 4wheeling with Eddo and moose about a week ago. We drove on some gravel roads and I was in the back taking the brunt of the dust. I was checking everything out on my jeep after getting back when I decided to check the intake and sure enough, it was lightly coated with dust. I think Im going to leave K&N but I was wondering what kind of filters are out there that filter good but still let as much air through as the K&N. I love the sucking noise it makes and would like to keep it if i can.

This is the drop-in k&n filter btw.

Wix factory style for now. Amsoil is supposed to be working on a drop in Dry, Absolute Efficiency design filter and also an AE K&N FIPK style replacement. I will be contacting them Again this week about it.

BTW, I sell WIX through my Amsoil online store, FWIW.

If you run the aftermarket induction systems the new AEM dryflow filters are awesome. No oil, reusable, and flows better than a K&N,I'm very pleased with mine.

Little motocross trick of the trade, I put waterproof grease around the sealing edge of the filter in the airbox. Try that and tell me if that doesn't cure your problem, I'm betting it will.

another vote for wix air and oil filters.....nothing but wix for 30 years....change your oil and both filters often and worry about something else....

tjkj2002: are you using an AEM filter w/AFE intake? If so do you know if I can replace my K&N Air Charger filter w/ the same one?

I don't see why not, just have to find one that is the same diameter(where it slides on the intake tube) and relitive same size as your K&N.It took me a few "lets see if this one will fit" at a autoparts store to find one that fit, just get you specs and go to AEM's web site(bruteforce.com I think)and the have specs on the filters with part numbers to help find the correct one.

I thought AMSOIL already made air filters? Or is it a matter of making one that fits the KJ?

Does anyone have any ISO results quickly available? I seem to remember an OEM filter surpassing all filters in every category but the restriction category.

Yes, Amsoil Does make air filters for many applications, but not all yet. I have been in contact with them about the KJ replacement and one of their AE style cone filters to replace the K&N FIPK cone filter. The large air horn on the end of the FIPK takes a larger inlet size than what they currently have available. BTW, The AC Delco filters have been known to filter great in testing but they do not flow as well as others. In testing, the Amsoil AE series is pretty much in the high end filtering wise and middle for air flow.

Amsoil also sells Wix brand air filters and Donaldson oil filters and Bosch products in addition to their own. They recognize those brands as the better perfomers in the industry.

Here is the ISO 5011 test I'd seen before.

There is another article floating around the 'net that has a quote from one of the engineers that worked on the air intake system for the Jeep engines and he says the stock intake system can be shown to be delivering more air than the engine is capable of using. I used to have the link bookmarked but that was at least one laptop rebuild ago and I can't find the thing after a dozen different Google searches.
